samti premises contact informationSAMTI is supported by, and located in the Engineering Faculty of, the Central University of Technology (CUT) and a funded subsidiary of the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA). As a section 21 company, SAMTI is governed by a board of directors comprising of experts from the CUT and the SEDA Technology Programme (STP).

SEDA is an agency of the South African Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), which was established in December 2004 through the National Small Business Amendment Act, Act 29 of 2004. Like SEDA, SAMTI supports SMMEs to develop and grow. They operate within the tooling sector, specifically serving the Agriculture and Mining environments in the Free State Province of South Africa.

SAMTI aspires to be a world-class tooling and design centre focussing on front-end engineering for agricultural and mining tooling needs in the SMME sector. They employ a technology-based development approach to train individuals and regional communities in the act of designing and producing tools. Beyond that, SAMTI also provides innovative entrepreneurial opportunities to aspiring toolmakers and assist with the establishment of sustainable tooling design businesses. They give opportunities to ordinary people to create and develop an enterprise within the tooling sector, and also assist with making that tooling design enterprises sustainable and profitable.

SAMTI’s programme includes a comprehensive list of services with the aim of helping tenants set up their business and grow into successful tooling design organisations. The programme takes about three years and includes networking opportunities, in-depth workshops, coaching and ongoing support.
